GENERAL INFORMATION AND HISTORY

The School Environment

The International Montessori School @ Treston, Inc. used to be known as The International Montessori School. It is a privately operated school that firmly adheres to Montessori principles as promoted by the Association Montessori Internationale. This is the international organization that sponsors the holding of teacher training courses recognized worldwide. These courses are the only ones we consider for our faculty's continuing education program in the field of Montessori education.

In May 2012, The International Montessori School had to transfer from its original location at No. 4 Ipil Place, South Forbes Park, Makati City to our current site.

Our school is now located at the 4th Floor of the Treston International College Building, University Parkway District, 32nd Street, Corner C-5 Road, Global City, 1634 Taguig, Metro Manila.

In 1983, the Department of Education Culture and Sports (DECS) recognized the Pre-elementary and Elementary programs under Certificates of Recognition 026 (for the Pre-Elementary Course) and 027 (for the Elementary Course) Series of 1983.

Upon transferring to our new location, The Department of Education has approved the retention of the recognition of our school programs under the following Certificates of Recognition: E-039 2013 and P-035 2013.

With the transfer to our new site, The International Montessori School will henceforth be known as The International Montessori School @ Treston, Inc.

The International Montessori School was founded by Ms. Patria Judith S. Gonzalez. She continues to serve as School Directress. Ms. Gonzalez received her diplomas from the Washington Montessori Institute for the Primary and Elementary levels. She completed her Assistants to Infancy Training at The Montessori Institute in Denver, Colorado and is currently in training as a Teacher Trainer for the Primary Level in the Trainer’s Course offered by the Association Montessori Internationale.

Our classrooms are carefully prepared by the teachers in compliance with the standards set by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). Prescribed Montessori equipment are mostly purchased from the duly accredited manufacturers: : Nienhuis Montessori (Netherlands and Gonzagarredi (Italy). Other sources of Montessori materials are periodically considered based on their quality.

TIMS@Treston, Inc. is currently developing a small outdoor play environment to give our children the opportunity to enjoy good weather. A variety of playground equipment has been selected for its initial set up, with the safety of the children as our primary concern. Practical life materials are locally sourced.

Nutritious snacks of fresh fruits in season, home baked cookies and cakes, soups and native Filipino delicacies are served at mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Child-sized eating utensils are provided to enable the child to eat by himself. In cases where a child has particular food allergies or food restrictions due to religion or other health concerns, we provide alternative snacks for them.

Potted plants grace our hallways and classrooms. Our students participate in taking care of these. The plants have been selected so that our students can observe the wide variety of leaf shapes, variegation and colors. We a pet turtle in the Primary Class and fish in an aquarium that the children also help care for.

We bring in “guest” pets for the children to observe, flowers for the children to use to adorn our work tables and unusual plants to help kindle the children’s interest in their study of concepts in biology.
